Cecília Zanotti
Co-founder and president of Projeto Bagagem, Cecilia currently works as a community-based tourism educator in partnership with the NGO Grãos de Luz e Griô in Lençóis, Bahia. A graduate in Business Administration from Getulio Vargas Foundation (São Paulo) in 1998, Cecilia started her career in the Third Sector during an exchange programme in Costa Rica. There, she structured the marketing department of the Volunteering Unit of the University of Costa Rica, which focused on promoting volunteer work in Costa Rican National Parks. In Brazil Cecilia has worked as a trainee and project assistant for the Ayrton Senna Institute (1999 - 2002). She has worked as an independent consultant for a number of social organizations such as the C&A Institue, CDI, Instituto Ambar, Neurônio Consultoria, Articultura, CETS-FGV, ibi Institute. In 2003/2004 she coordinated the Aprendiz Incubator programme, at Cidade Escola Aprendiz, a São Paulo-based NGO, focused on income generation and insertion of youth in the marketplace. At Aprendiz she also coordinated a social projects award for high school students and teachers in São Paulo in 2004/2005.
Mônica Barroso Keel
Co-founder and vice-president of Projeto Bagagem, Mônica has recently concluded her Ph.D in Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her thesis analyses the role of radio communication on the livelihoods of rural communities in Brazilian Amazonia. Mônica graduated in Business Administration from Getulio Vargas Foundation (São Paulo) in 1998, and started her career in the social sector at the development office of the Foundation. Later, as a trainee of the Ayrton Senna Institute, she had the opportunity to interact with a number of successful local NGOs in different regions of Brazil. In 2002 she worked for Projeto Saúde e Alegria in Santarém (Brazilian Amazonia), developing a micro-credit project and other income generation projects for riverine communities of the Tapajós and Arapiuns rivers. She has also worked as a short-term consultant for Friends of the Earth Brazilian Amazonia.
Ana Gabriela da Cruz Fontoura
Regional contact of Projeto Bagagem in the Amazon, Gabi works since 2005 as Program Assistant for the School For International Training (SIT) study abroad program in Amazon Resource Management and Human Ecology, one of the more than 50 SIT programs around the world. Graduated in Tourism at Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) and specialist in Environmental Studies by Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) from Minas Gerais, Gabi has accumulated vast experience in adventure tourism, ecotourism e educational tourism at different travel agencies and initiatives. She has also worked with an association of adventure sports in Belém, gaining specific experience and interest in developing, organizing and executing specialized tours and adventure races in the Amazon.
